New York has never shied away from strict penalties for drunk drivers, but, with the startling statistics of those who are circumventing ignition interlock devices required by the court, the state has had little choice but to increase those very same penalties. Democratandchronicle.com reports that New York State will increase penalties for several alcohol-related crimes, including fake identification, child engangerment and stiffer penalties for those who attempt to operate a vehicle without an ordered ignition interlock device installed.
