The rate of drivers arrested within Boston for drunk driving offenses has dropped, causing concern over the reasons behind the statistic dip. According to The Boston Globe, the lower rates of OUI arrests in the city could be related to the more foot-friendly, walking lifestyles the metropolitan area provides. Others feel that not enough emphasis or resources have been devoted to enforcing drunk driving laws within the city. Across the state of Massachusetts, however, lower rates of drunk driving fatalities have been reported, a statistic attributed to more law enforcement and public education.
